Nexpa and Caleta de Campos

Northward of Zihuatanejo on the coast of the neighboring Mexican state Michoacan is the town of Caleta de Campos and the surfing community of Barra de Nexpa. We recently took a quick weekend trip there from Zihuatanejo for a change of scenery. The drive takes you past the large shipping port of Lazaro Cardenas, about 2-1/2 hours in duration under normal conditions. At present (May 2011), conditions are not exactly normal as various sectors of federal coastal highway 200 are in the process of being widened and straightened, so expect construction delays.
