Lodging: Beaches North

Pantla, Buenavista, La Saladita, Barra de Nexpa Hotels and Lodging

To the north of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, in addition to the well-defined community of Troncones Beach, there are also several other areas of growth and interest to beach lovers, surfers, and those looking for a place a relaxation a bit more removed from the more populated resort atmosphere. These are accessible along Federal highway 200 that leads up the coast to Lazaro Cardenas and the Michoacan border.

Buenavista / Pantla Beach

Pantla Beach
Pantla Beach

The Buenavista and Pantla Beach area is at once remote and convenient; a short 15 or 20 minute drive will get you into Ixtapa’s restaurants, golf clubs and commercial zone, yet when you’re on the beach, you feel a million miles away.

Buenavista and Pantla beaches are located slightly to the north of Ixtapa Mexico on the coastal highway to Troncones and Lazaro Cardenas. It is accessed through the small town of Buenavista. At the point where access is gained to the beach itself, what is designated as Buenavista beach extends northward toward Troncones, and Pantla Beach extends southward toward the mouth of the Pantla River.

This is a relatively new and exclusive community growing up along a beautiful, palm-lined stretch of beach with a distant view of Ixtapa Island and the open ocean. Here the newly-built and luxurious homes are nestled among coconut palm groves, bathed every evening by the brilliant colors of the sunset and soft ocean breezes.

La Saladita

La Saladita beach is one of the area’s prime surf spots, and because of this there are several lodging facilities, bungalow rentals and camping spots that have grown up in the vicinity of the surfing point.

The beachfront community is burgeoning and there is a large number of private dwellings sprouting up along the three or more kilometers of beach accessible by the La Saladita road. This has also brought more restaurants into the area, although these are still just of the simple, palm-roofed enrramada variety serving fresh seafood and basic Mexican dishes, many of them still cooking over open fires.
