Things to Do
Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Mexico
Ixtapa Zihuatanejo is privileged to sit on the Pacific coast of Mexico where the waters are forever caressingly warm, where Zihuatanejo Bay provides a series of sheltered and safe beaches and where, outside the bay, one can enjoy wild ocean vistas and powerful surf all year round. This makes for a tremendously wide range of water and beach sports that are the favorite activities in this area. At any given moment along the beaches lining Zihuatanejo Bay and the ocean frontage of nearby Ixtapa, you can see happy vacationers enjoying parasailing, water skiing, banana boating, diving & snorkeling, boogie boarding, sailing or simply wallowing in the sand and surf and basking in the sun.
The Zihuatanejo area’s more active recreational activities also include big and small game sportfishing, surfing (with convenient breaks for both long and short boarders), snorkeling and skin diving as well as a myriad of other water sports, kayaking and bird watching in the nearby lagoons and mangrove wetlands, mountain biking, beach and trail horseback riding, taking fun and educational day trips to Petatlan, Barra de Potosí and other nearby towns and beaches or longer side trips and over-nighters both inland and along our coastline.
If an intense or physically active vacation doesn’t appeal to you, there are plenty of other more relaxing activities such as beach combing along miles of white-sanded beaches, checking out the local archaeological museum in downtown Zihuatanejo, exploring the municipal market, browsing the local art galleries, partaking in a relaxing massage or yoga class and retreat, and enjoying a number of live music venues that draw people increasingly to this area. And speaking of music, don’t forget the Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival that’s held every spring – a whole week of guitar music to enjoy!
In Ixtapa, golfers can enjoy two signature 18-hole golf courses, the Palma Real Golf Course and the Marina Ixtapa Golf Course. Tennis courts are available at both golf courses as well as at many of the hotels.
Snorkeling and sunset sailing cruises can be booked out of Zihuatanejo Bay on the fun and roomy catamaran “Picante”, run by Yates del Sol, S.A. DE C.V. Call (+52) (755) 554-2694 or 554-8270 to book your cruise, or visit the Picante Cruises website
