Every child deserves a chance to learn

In Mexico, school attendance is required only through the 6th grade and the costs associated with attending school after the sixth grade increase substantially.

Many families simply cannot afford to continue with their child’s education – that is why NIÑOS ADELANTE needs your help!

What is NIÑOS ADELANTE?

Niños Adelante is a non-profit organization recognized by the government of Mexico. Founded by a small group of Americans in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo in 1978, its purpose is to provide scholarship dollars to motivated, needy children in the community and provide them the opportunity to complete Secundaria (Jr. High) and Preparatoria (High School).

The organization is run primarily by volunteers and every dollar contributed for the children goes directly to them. The organization does have a part time paid administrator, José Bustos, a young man from Zihuatanejo. His salary is paid using funds raised each year through several special events. He is a dedicated, hard working employee who is invaluable to the organization.

What is FRIENDS OF NIÑOS ADELANTE?

Friends of Niños Adelante, founded in the US in 1999 is a 501 (c ) (3) charitable organization organized for the sole purpose of providing financial support to Niños Adelante.

What is a SPONSOR?

A sponsor is a person or persons who make a commitment to provide scholarship dollars to one or more children. Sponsors are encouraged to commit to the child through Preparatoria (high school), providing continuity and security to the child throughout their education.

What does a $250 Sponsorship pay for?

Every cent of your contribution goes directly to the child. It covers about half the costs directly associated with sending a child to school (uniforms, books, tuition {at Preparatoria level}, activities, supplies, lunches and bus transportation). The money is given to the student over a 10 month period. The students are responsible for paying the tuition and buying supplies on a timely basis – teaching them a valuable lesson about life. Our sponsors can also help by donating school supplies: paper, pencils, pens, crayons, small calculators, etc

How are students selected?

Niños Adelante maintains extremely high standards for participation in the program. All students are required to maintain a grade point average of 8.0 out of a possible 10.0. This insures that the children benefiting from the program are truly interested in an education. The selection and scholarship awarding process is very thorough.

The Non-Sponsor Program

Niños Adelante has also benefited from individuals wishing to make donations, both monetary and of materials, without committing to sponsorship. Any amount, large or small, is most appreciated!

The needs of these children are endless, but so are the possibilities. Donations of books for the library, school supplies, musical instruments, clothes, educational videos and sports equipment are just a few categories where donations are needed.
