In the course of its recent growth, the architects and designers in the Zihuatanejo to Troncones area have developed a style that is uniquely Zihuatanesque. There exists a great integration of native tropical materials, the flowing lines of nature and the colors of the earth and sky. Prevalent are the use of adobe-like brick and finishings, palapa (palm frond) thatched roofs, natural hardwood accents, bamboo and woven straw accents and both and sturdy and decorative stone work. Whether on rocky cliff sides or low-lying and sandy, ocean shores, the Zihuatanejo building style seems to grow out of the earth and blend in to the lush, tropical vegetation that surrounds it.
